A NORTHERN beaches boy has a medical condition so rare he is the only one in Sydney with it.
Axel Maloney, 3, of Belrose was diagnosed with Mowat Wilson Syndrome in March.
There are only 300 in the world with the condition — which causes physical and intellectual disabilities.
His devastated parents Ryan and Lesley said the life shortening condition meant he may not live past 30, will need 24-hour care and may never be able to speak.
“It was a shock,” Mr Maloney said.
“We thought his issues were due to being born prematurely and that he would overcome them, like his twin Ryley.
“But now we know he won’t.”
While Axel and Ryley, born at 26 weeks, are twins, only Axel has the syndrome.
